#Emby server using nextpvr how to#
VBR vs CBR seems to do little different.Ģ) I am not sure how to disable the V4 web server so I am running V5 webserver, is that necessary?ģ) FFmpeg is doing the transcode, I have read in past posts that you can utilize VLC for transcode but have yet to figure out how to complete that. I have changed the max bitrate to 1,500,000 Kbps which I believe is 1.5Mbps. Ok I was able to get V5 installed and it seems to be working but I am starting to lean towards it is not possible with my current setup.ġ) I have messed with the config files to decrease quality. With v5 it is also possible to https etc, if you have certs, or via proxy pass from another server like iis/nginx etc. You could also use a different port number for port forwarding from your router. v5 is more secure, but make sure you’re not using the default username/password/pin. Realistically, I wouldn’t suggest using v4 over the internet. Login with admin/password, head to the settings screen. A few seconds later the web app should start in your default browser. Unzip the files into a directory like “C:\Program Files\NPVR” and run NextPVRServer.exe. I am quite certain I did something wrong in the installĪt it’s most basic, on a machine without NextPVR v4 (or where NextPVR v4 has been stopped), just do this:
#Emby server using nextpvr .exe#
exe are there good instructions on how to install it? I tried installing it but it didn’t seems to do much if anything. (, 08:18 PM) bisonfan Wrote: Thanks Martin. TvHeadend didn't support my cablecard tuner, so I ended up using MythTV as my backend. Personally, I had live TV issues with NextPVR, and I had recording issues with Media Portal. If you just want TV inside your home network, then you can use a backend like NextPVR or Media Portal 1 or 2 on Windows, or TvHeadend or MythTV on Linux and a frontend like Kodi. But that's a lot of work to save a couple bucks. Of course Emby and Plex just use ffmpeg internally, so you could surely hack your own solution up around that. You need something to transcode to a more space-efficient format, and that's where Emby or Plex become useful. Because most TV is still MPEG2, which is storage-inefficient and thus is expensive to stream (most people don't have great upload speeds MPEG2 live TV is upwards of 20Mbps, which isn't going to work if your upstream is only 10Mbps).

If the former, Emby or Plex are your best bets, and it may be worth it to pay the money for Live TV. Linux only, so run it in Docker or a VM.ĭo you actually mean you want to stream this externally, like be able to watch TV on your phone or tablet while away from home? Or do you just meany you want to have a centralized DVR in one spot and use one or more clients on your LAN to watch TV? Tvheadend server and Kodi with Tvheadend PVR client.

My server is a Windows 10 PC, with a Hauppauge 1196 tuner. What else is out there? What setup do you use and how satisfied are you with it?

I'd been using Emby with MediaPortal as the backend to stream live TV from my HTPC over the internet, but Emby recently removed live TV as a free feature, and I've had enough frustrations with Emby while I was using it that paying for premium ain't gonna happen.
